I woke up early. That’s not unusual for me. It’s not usual either. I have sleep onset insomnia. Once I get to sleep I tend to sleep 6 to 8 hours.
But now an then I wake up after on 3 or so, like today. Now I think this is actually the norm for me. I just go back to sleep, because once I get started sleeping I usually have a hard time waking up.
There is another case. If I have to do something after waking up on short sleep. The more time I have to invest in that something, the more likely I am to become fully awake.
That seems like it should be normal for most people. But this is the case where my insomnia comes into play. Getting to full wakefulness means I’m unlikely to even feel sleepy for 16 to 20 hours. Today, I think I need to take a nap.
It’s a strange feeling.
I set a goal to knock out the next two wee’s strips in the next few days, so I am inclined to fight the feeling. If I were writing, I might just do that for a while. The stuff I write while impaired is invariably crap, but it often has an interesting idea in it. I’d give you an example, but the only one that comes to mind is one I’m going to use, and it’s better (in my mind) if that one is revealed in story. Before this becomes a full on, sleep-addled digression, and I lose the thread, I’m not writing. I’m on strip 9 of issue 0. Strip 10, absolute. I’ve written full scripts for Issues 0, 1, and 2 at 21 pages each. (There’s nothing special about 21, btw. In fact issue 1 will be longer than 21 pages. There’s an action sequence I skipped the framing on, and forgot about until I decided to count just now. Originally, all of the issues were longer than 21, but they’ve been edited as I’ve decided some bits were both unneeded and uninteresting.) So I’ve got 63 pages written. That will carry through the next 4 months, unless I get to advance to 5 strips a week schedule I want.
No. What I need to do is art, and I make enough mistakes when I’m alert. So, it’s to youtube for me. Science vids until my eyes are too heavy. (I love science, but I’m aware of so much of it that very little of what you find one youtube is new to me. I just enjoy vids of people who really like talking about science.)
